Convergences is partnering with York University’s Left History and the University of Toronto’s Past Tense to edit and publish the top two research articles submitted by our panelists ahead of the conference, along with a $250 prize.

Past Tense Journal
Established in 2011, Past Tense Graduate Review of History is the preeminent graduate history journal in Canada, housed within the country’s top history department at the University of Toronto. The journal’s mission is to provide a platform for young and promising historians from around the world to showcase their original research in a peer-reviewed publication.
Past Tense provides a forum for developing scholars to gain experience with academic publishing. The journal publishes original research articles, book reviews and critical commentaries about issues in the field of history. It welcomes submissions from researchers of all disciplines and institutions on topics that concern a broad range of time periods and geographies. Past Tense is published online with the support of the University of Toronto Department of History.
Left History Journal
Established in 1993, Left History is a peer-reviewed bi-annual scholarly journal run out of York University, with an editorial board of prominent left historians. Left History features articles by both established and new scholars from a variety of academic disciplines, on topics including race, politics, gender, sexuality, culture, the state, labour, the environment, human rights, theory, and method. Left History also includes review essays and individual book reviews, and occasionally other types of material like research notes and symposium proceedings.
Left History is indexed in America History and Life, Historical Abstracts, Sociological Abstracts, and the Alternative Press Index.
If you’re a panelist at Convergences 2021, please consider participating in our research article contest! Your article should be about 20-30 pages long including footnotes. The top two papers will be edited for publication at either Past Tense or Left History and receive a monetary award of $250 CAD. If you are interested in submitting your paper for these prizes, please submit your full paper no later than 19 April 2021. The two successful applicants will be announced at the end of our conference during our closing remarks.
